Tony Romo put on leave at CBS Sports following arrest
Tony Romo has been placed on leave at CBS Sports, the network confirmed in a statement.
"Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice," the network said in a statement Friday.
Former Houston Texans star J.J. Watt will take over for Romo during his leave, working alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on the network's NFL coverage, according to CBS Sports.
Romo was arrested in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 23 on suspicion of operating while under the influence, according to a Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office arrest-detention report obtained by ABC News.
According to the arrest report, Romo was stopped Thursday evening and "performed poorly" on subsequent standardized field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody and later released.
The sheriff's office released body camera footage of Romo's arrest and sobriety test on Wednesday.
Romo was issued three citations in connection with the incident -- operating while under the influence, unsafe passing, and possession of an open container in a moving vehicle -- which were obtained by ABC News on Wednesday, pursuant to a public records request.
Romo is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21 at 8:30 a.m., according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department.
Romo spent 14 years as a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. He joined the Cowboys in 2003 after signing as an undrafted free agent. He was named the starting quarterback for the team in 2006 and led the Cowboys to six playoff appearances.
In April 2017, Romo joined CBS Sports as the lead game analyst for "The NFL on CBS," alongside Nantz and Wolfson as the network's lead NFL announcing team.
