Shia LaBeouf pleads guilty to simple battery after Mardi Gras arrest
Actor Shia LaBeouf pleaded guilty Wednesday to three counts of simple battery stemming from an incident in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, according to court records.
LaBeouf entered the guilty pleas during an arraignment hearing today. The court sentenced him to six months on each count, with the sentences suspended. He was placed on active probation for two years.
A probation status hearing is scheduled for July 15.
ABC News has reached out to representatives for LaBeouf for further comment.
LaBeouf was arrested in New Orleans after allegedly striking two men, according to police.
"At approximately 12:45 a.m. on February 17, 2026, NOPD officers were called to the 1400 block of Royal Street in response to a simple battery where two victims (two adult males), reported being assaulted," police stated in February. "Investigators say a man identified as 39-year-old Shia LaBeouf was reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at a Royal Street business."
According to the arrest details from New Orleans Police Department shared with ABC News in February, a staff member at the Royal Street business tried to remove LaBeouf, 39, from the establishment, and once outside, the actor allegedly struck one of the victims with "closed fists" several times.
Police said the "Transformers" star then left the area but returned and allegedly continued to act aggressively, at which point "multiple" people tried to restrain him.
"He was eventually let up in hopes that he would leave -- but he reportedly again struck the same victim with closed fists to the victim's upper body," the department stated. "LaBeouf then reportedly assaulted another person -- punching him in the nose."
According to police, LaBeouf was then restrained again and "held down" until officers arrived on the scene. The department said the actor was later taken to a hospital "for treatment of unspecified injuries."
In an interview with "Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan" posted to YouTube on Feb. 28, the actor reflected on the incident and the personal struggles he says contributed to it. While acknowledging his behavior was inappropriate, LaBeouf said he does not believe returning to rehab is the solution for him.
"My behavior [was] bulls---. I gotta deal with that," he said. "Does that mean I gotta go to rehab again? I'm just not into it. I don’t think my answers are there. I just don't … I genuinely don't. If I genuinely did, I'd go."
Earlier in the interview, LaBeouf revealed he has not been sober for about nine months and accepted responsibility for the New Orleans incident, calling it "on me."
LaBeouf was initially charged with two counts of simple battery before a third one was added at a later date.
